Fastforwardfossil Drawings, 2007-8
exhibited with Fastforwardfossil; Part 1 at Frederieke Taylor Gallery, 2009
This series of drawings began on a residency at Bogliasco in Genoa, Italy. Perched in an olive grove high up above the Ligurian coast, with a distant view of oil tankers on the sea, and the gritty port of Genoa nearby, I began to cover drawing paper with accidental spills of ink, and then to extract shapes from the accidents to begin the drawing process. Drawing the massive infrastructure of oil on small sheets of paper with walnut ink or payne’s gray, a poetic and haunted journey of investigation began which continues in my drawing today.
